Northeast Song and Dance Duet is a kind of well-known form of folk art. The traditional name that is used is 鈥淏engbeng鈥? describing the dancing and singing with contrasting music. It is popular in Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces and the eastern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It uses the sound of the northeast with hip-hop performances. It was generally believed that in the mid-Qing Dynasty, the 鈥淏engbeng鈥?was formed from Northeast Yangge and Lotus Flower Lao. It absorbed foreign music and performance skills of Northeast folk songs, peaceful drums, bass drums and other sister arts in the Northeast during its development. Its melody is very rich.

Since the 20th century the artists representing the Northeast song and dance duet are Xue Xiaolou, Lang Yanfang, Xiaolanzhi in Liaoning; Cheng Xifa, Li Qingshan, Gu Bolin in Jilin; and Guo Wenbao, Li Tai, Hu Jingqi in Heilongjiang.
